As part of the '2008 Year of the NCO' initiative, the E-3A Component is recognizing the professionalism and dedication of the NCO Corps by highlighting NCOs from the various nations working side by side.
This story is about a team of multinational NCOs who work at Training Wing, training various operational specialists. Before flying and operating live from the AWACS, all the crewmembers go through an extensive training programme. The main focus during the training programme is to do as much on-the-job training as possible, which means plenty of 'hands on' and 'learning by doing' for the students. Here too, the NCOs play a key role as experienced instructors and motivating communicators.
One of the instructors talks about his job in the E-3A Component: "Being the course writer as well as an instructor and evaluator gives you the opportunity to be creative and at the same time check how the course works for the students. Another great and unique thing about GK is the multitude of cultures and nationalities you get exposed to and work with. Meeting people from all over the world has certainly been one of the biggest treats this posting offers. I look at being posted here as a privilege, rather than a duty that I share with the soldiers of other nations."
