In December 2008 the NMT Modernization Programme was completed, including the retrofit of 17 E-3As and two Mission Simulators. Because of the NMT-upgrade the NATO E-3A is now the most advanced Airborne Warning and Control System platform in the world today.

The E-3A can stay in the air for more than 10 hours. All 17 E-3A aircraft are air-refuelable.

From its earliest days in 1982, MOB Geilenkirchen has played a unique role in supporting NATO's mission of safeguarding security and freedom. On
16 and 17 June 2007 the 25th Anniversary was celebrated with more than 100.000 visitors
attending, making it the largest public event in NATO's history.
